Makenna decided to play basketball for her middle school team. This came as a bit of a surprise to us since she had only ever played basketball in gym class and never once picked up the ball to shoot hoops on our driveway...but once we thought about it we knew that Makenna would make the best of it since she loves to compete in sports. The weekend before tryouts Makenna called two of her good friends who are basketball players and asked them to go to our community center to help her learn a few things...like how to do free throws and how to basically play the game! I knew we were in for an interesting season if she made the team. She made the C team which was likely the best place for her in the beginning but during tryouts the coaches kept telling her they weren't quite sure what to do with her...she was so stinking competitive and could defend like crazy but she had no real understanding for the game! Of course the coaches were only just getting to know her and her drive for becoming the best player she could be...by the end of the season she had racked up the most points scored AND the most fouls given! Our athlete showed us once again that she can do just about anything she puts her mind to!
For the playoffs the coach moved her up to B team...she had fun and was a good addition to that team. She scored lots of points in the final game but it wasn't quite enough so the team exited the bracket after two rounds ( I think).
