Regional Swim Meet

This summer, for the second year in a row, Makenna has been swimming on the local swim team.  She has really enjoyed herself and has done quite well at all of the meets.  The regional swim meet was the same Saturday that we were picking her up from Pine Cove Christian Camp, which was over 100 miles away.  Makenna asked us if we would consider driving straight to the swim meet after the closing ceremonies at camp.  I was pretty sure it was a bad idea considering that she would NOT have been in the pool for over a week, that she would be EXHAUSTED and that we would have to really push it to get there before her first heat.  She continued to talk badger us to think about it and in the end we decided that no matter what the outcome was it would be a good experience for her and really what did she have to lose?   Thankfully, my father in law agreed to meet us at the swim meet to pick up Blake who just wanted to get home and sleep and my mother in law kept Merideth for the day so that she would not have to endure the long car trip plus the long swim meet. We arrived at the meet with plenty of time to spare and Makenna got to warm up and had about an hour to prepare herself for her first race.

Makenna did very well in all her races but she did not qualify for state.  She ended up being in the top ten out of 71-81 swimmers depending on the race. 

It has been a fun experience and we are already thinking about next summer!
